On Thursday 30 June and Friday 1 July a series of friendly matches, between a touring party of South African juniors, from Glenwood School near Durban, were hosted at Abingdon. A number of juniors from across OSRA clubs took on the tourists over the two days. The matches, which were very competitive, were played in a great spirit and were thoroughly enjoyed by all involved. It was great to see such talented players competing fiercely, but fairly, in the traditions of sporting friendship. Over the two days the tourists proved to be the stronger, but there wasn't much between the sides.
Many thanks to Steve Learoyd and the Abingdon Committee for the use of the courts, to Alan Gilmour for organising the courts and the barbeque, and to Guy Tupper for organising the OSRA juniors and the matches.
The South African touring party were Corne van Zyl, Ricardo Ribiero, Aiden Schofield, John Minnie, and Koulin Percival.
On Thursday the OSRA juniors were: John Geekie, Josh Allen, Toby Warren, Sam Palmer, Calum Meredith, and Sam Boughton.
On Friday the OSRA juniors were: Chris Backhouse, Josh Tipping, Josh Allen, Kian Guerzoni, Aisling Guerzoni, Jacob Coxon, Eve Coxon, Sam Boughton, and Calum Meredith.
