Saturday’s squash festival in memory of Jim Lynn was a great success. Nearly 40 players battled each other over four fun hours. Competition was fierce but all good natured with many a tongue-in-cheek let decision made. Joe Brook and the seasoned veteran Mark Cairns produced a squash masterclass for the exhibition match. Mark made Joe visit all corners of the court numerous times but the younger legs edged the victory.
Jim’s colleagues at the Physics and Engineering department designed and made a trophy for the event, which was presented to Jim’s wife, Marie and daughter, Katherine after the squash had finished and a couple of beers enjoyed. The trophy incorporated a lens fixing for a new super telescope destined for a mountain top in central America and designed by Jim himself. A lovely touch from his colleagues.
The event raised £550, which will be donated to Sobell house.
